Press Release: BGSi’s Second Anniversary Marks a New Era in Genomic Healthcare in Indonesia

Jakarta, 12 September 2024 – To celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of BGSi, the Biomedical Genomic and Science Initiatives (BGSi) successfully hosted a series of events held over two days, from 11 to 12 September 2024. These events underscored BGSi’s commitment to supporting the development of genomics and precision medicine in Indonesia.

Under the theme “Future Directions in Genomics: Setting the Agenda for the Next Decade”, the event featured in-depth discussions, workshops, and presentations of the latest technologies, focusing on innovations in genomics and its role in driving a future of more personalized, data-driven healthcare. Prominent experts from both domestic and international backgrounds shared insights into the rapid advancements of precision medicine in Asia, highlighting how genomic data is transforming personalized healthcare. Experiences from the UK and Australia further enriched discussions on how these countries have successfully integrated genomic technologies into their healthcare systems.

Additionally, several flagship programs from BGSi were introduced, designed to strengthen the capacity of public hospitals in utilizing pharmacogenomics and genomic diagnostics to treat diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. The role of genomics in the treatment of rare diseases, as well as in maternal and neonatal health, was also emphasized, underscoring the importance of this technology in providing more precise and personalized healthcare solutions.

On the final day, 12 September 2024, the event culminated in the launch of the SatuDNA platform, an advanced innovation integrated with SATUSEHAT, aimed at providing personalized healthcare solutions based on individual DNA analysis. This platform allows the public to independently access their DNA results and receive detailed reports on pharmacogenomics. The Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, officially launched SatuDNA, emphasizing that this platform will serve as a crucial foundation for more personalized, data-driven healthcare services in Indonesia. The launch is expected to have a significant impact on improving public health outcomes through a more targeted, precise approach.
